Frequently Asked Questions
Got questions about our post and rail fencing? We've got answers. Here's everything you need to know before getting started.
-
Our posts are precision-machined with mortises (slots) designed specifically to fit our rails, creating a strong, seamless interlocking post and rail fencing system.
Rather than attaching the rails to the outside of the posts with brackets or screws, they slot directly through the timber.
The result? A beautifully simple fence with that classic country look, a clean finish on both sides, and no visible fixings.

Yes, we recommend applying a quality exterior timber oil, stain or paint to your fence after installation. While our pine is treated to help protect the timber from decay and insects, treatment alone doesn’t stop the timber from weathering when exposed to sun, rain and changing conditions.
Applying a protective finish helps reduce moisture movement, checking and surface weathering, while keeping your fence looking its best for longer.
You can choose an oil or stain to show off the natural timber grain, or paint the fence to suit your home, property or landscape.
Like any exterior timber product, regular maintenance and recoating when required will help extend its life and maintain its appearance.

Our standard three-rail fence is designed to sit approximately 1050mm above ground, with the posts installed approximately 750mm into the ground for a strong, secure finish.
The three rails are evenly spaced up the post, giving the fence a balanced traditional post & rail appearance. Each rail fits into a precision-cut opening in the post, creating a clean interlocking finish. The holes are made slightly bigger than the rails to allow for easy installation.

Absolutely! We can supply corner posts, T-posts and end posts to suit your fencing layout.
These posts are specially machined with slots that stop inside the timber rather than going all the way through, giving your fence a clean, tidy finish.
Just let us know what you've got planned when requesting a quote, and we'll help you work out what you need!

Treated pine is an ideal choice for post & rail fencing because it combines the natural look of timber with long-term protection against rot, decay and insects. Because fencing is constantly exposed to moisture, soil and changing weather conditions, treatment significantly extends the life of the timber compared with untreated pine.
It's also strong, practical and cost-effective, making it well suited to everything from town to country properties. Over time, the timber can be left to weather naturally or stained to achieve the look you want.
The result is a classic timber fence that's built for New Zealand conditions and designed to last.
